How many decisions have you made since you woke up in the morning?
My alarm went off, I think I’ll get some sleep.
It’s a bit cold. Should I turn on the heater or put on a fleece?
Should I have bread or rice for breakfast?
Number of decisions made
According to research by Professor Barbara Sahakian of the University of Cambridge, we make 35,000 decisions a day .
Also, making decisions requires energy, and there are only a limited number of times you can make an appropriate decision in a day.
It’s true that in the evening, our decision-making power weakens, and we sometimes make mistakes in choosing the time we should allocate.
Listening to my wife and daughter’s report on their day, and answering my sons’ silly quizzes. This is not the time to waste your precious time thinking about your work schedule.
A regular pattern in the morning
When I wake up in the morning, I boil water, weigh out 16g of coffee beans, grind them thoroughly with a hand mill, and brew 320ml of coffee.
At 7:20, I put the dashi pack in a miso soup pot, bring it to a boil, cut the vegetables, and make miso soup.
The lunch I take to work is the spice curry I made on my day off.
I don’t want to waste my precious decision-making time worrying or worrying all morning .
Socks and pants. Reasons for each.
Although we want to choose what we wear to suit our mood and the occasion, in reality, we choose clothes with an emphasis on functionality and comfort. During the season, I mix and match 2-3 pieces.
Since I’m not particular about my appearance, I try to wear socks and pants with the same design every day.
Socks
After all, there was a hole at the same time.
When I was choosing 3 pairs of socks for 1,000 yen, I casually chose 3 different types of socks.
One day, I bought three pairs of the same pattern.
There are 6 simple light gray socks.
- Wouldn’t it save you the trouble of looking for a partner after doing laundry?
- Even if one sock has a hole, wouldn’t it be possible to wear all 5 socks?
- If you choose one type, you won’t have to choose one every morning.
- Eliminates the dilemma of having socks you like get torn and socks you don’t like.
As expected, I wore the first generation and almost 6 of them tore at the same time.
2nd generation: 9 pairs = 18 purchased at the same time
I would like to get a size larger than the normal size, 27-29cm, but they are not available in stores, so I have to order online.
I was able to wear 3 pairs of shoes at a reasonable pace, so I took them down first.
After a while, the holes start to appear one by one, so I remove them from the inventory each time.
Soon, the first 3 pairs = 6 pairs will have holes one after another.
The rest is inventory management.
When the last one comes out, I will order another 9 pairs. Reduce shopping time!
Pants
Things are a little different with pants.
One day about five years ago, my wife bought me pants that were so good that they have been my only choice ever since. These are the best pants I’ve ever had .
I think each person has different preferences when it comes to pants.
- Matches my taste in fit
- Design is within acceptable range
- No fading, no fading
- No discomfort even if you sweat
- It’s neither hot nor cold throughout the year
- Design/condition that is safe even if my pants are seen in an unexpected situation
For me, ①, ④, and ⑤ are particularly important, and I had a hard time finding them.
Good pants are safe
I used to pay 1,000 to 1,500 yen for 3, but now it costs 1,300 yen for 1.
It’s well balanced when it comes to everyday comfort and durability.
What’s more, these pants are durable and won’t sag, so you can feel safe and cover the 6th point: “Be prepared for unexpected situations.”
I never thought I would be looking for a sense of security in pants!
This is also a success in reducing the shopping costs of choosing and shopping!
The price of retention
I think this is how mental aging progresses .
Prioritize your own comfort over how you look.
Justify your choice and make it stick.
If it’s something you wear, you won’t cause trouble to others, but if it shows up in your actions, it’s a problem.
Nowadays, the skills to accept and justify oneself have improved.
I have to be very careful.
Have a nice day today!
