My son, who has grown up without being taken out often because I work on Saturdays and Sundays, will be in high school in this spring.

When I asked him if he wanted to go camping, he was surprisingly enthusiastic.

The two of us decided to go out to a beautiful beach by the sea.

10 things I want to do with my son ~First day of camp~

We headed to Mikisato Beach in Owase City, Mie Prefecture .

1. Talk about the future while heading to the destination

It was about a 2 hour drive and we talked about junior high school and baseball.

I was the type of person who didn’t have anything particular to say about the world, society, or school.

He has many opinions, and he has his own points of contention about the teaching methods of junior high school teachers and the role of baseball managers and coaches. Come to think of it, my older brother was also an argumentative type and would often discuss the criticisms of his school teachers. Could this be a characteristic of the eldest son?

  • My son doesn’t have anything in particular that he want to do, but he plans on going to university.
  • He doesn’t have a purpose for what he is going to do.
  • At school, students are regularly challenged with goals and objectives.

It’s a bit painful to only have a sense of value that says he should have clear goals and objectives. How should a parent relate to such a son?

I’ve lived my life without a clear purpose or goal, so I can give him my perspective.

  • Adults around them (teachers, parents, baseball coaches) tend to encourage goal-oriented behavior.
  • Goal orientation is one of the values and way of life, but it is not the only one.
  • Don’t feel anxious or depressed just because you don’t have a set purpose or goal.
  • There is nothing better than having clear goals and objectives.
  • It would be great to meet many adult lifestyles and be able to make choices.

From my perspective, he has many great qualities.

  • Good at explaining things
  • have concentration
  • good at copy-drawing
  • good at mathematics
  • don’t worry about details
  • has leadership
  • can communicate
  • adaptable
  • has excellent taste
  • likes crafts
  • can tackle anything sincerely

What about design work? Architecture, infrastructure, equipment, machinery, etc. There are many jobs around it.

I tried to convey my idea that while looking for a field that interests them, they will acquire the basic social skills they need to demonstrate through school, club activities, and part-time jobs.

Since we both keep our heads forward while driving, we can naturally hear each other about topics like this. Difficult in dining.

2. Eat two seafood bowls

Arrived at Uo Ichiba “Ototo” !

I’m looking for the yellowtail toro bowl (740 yen).

My son, who was full of food, had the local fish bowl DX (1,230 yen) and the raw salmon bowl (920 yen)!

I had a very satisfying lunch while watching Spring High School Baseball game Koryo vs. Aomori Yamada on the TV in the cafeteria!

At the store, I bought a overnight-dried Japanese squid and 4 turban shells and headed to our destination!

3. Soak in a hot spring together

I got some bait for fishing at a fishing tackle shop, and since I was a little earlier than planned, I stopped by Kodo-no-Yu and checked my plans while soaking in the bath.

Anyway, the weather is nice and it’s a pleasant time.

4. Play catch on the beach

We arrived at Mikisato Beach, set up our tents, unloaded our luggage, and set up our base.

The number one thing a father wants to do on the beach with his son, who plays baseball, is to play catch with him.

When he first started playing baseball in the fourth grade, I could easily play catch with a softball of about 15 meters in the garden, even though I was a soccer player.

Nowadays, the pitches are hard and the distance is increasing rapidly, and for someone like me who hasn’t even mastered how to throw properly, it’s quite difficult. My son teaches me the form and I throw to avoid hurting my shoulders.

The two of us played catch on the beach with no one else around. The distance continued to increase until it was about 100m.

5. Teach him how to use matches correctly

Building a fire is one of the highlights of men’s camping, but this time I went a little lazy and just used matches and firelighter.

At forest school when he was in fifth grade, it seemed like he had lit a match, so I left it to him to light the match, fire starter, and charcoal.

It’s not going well.

Here’s how to use matches.

  • Take a match and rub it against the side of the box to light it.
  • The flame that ignites vigorously spreads to the shaft of the tree and stabilizes the fire.
  • Light it close to the firelighter

Even if you bring the match close to the firelighter with just the force of ①, the match will go out when the gunpowder burns out.

If you follow step ②, you will have enough time for the firelighter to catch fire.

However, it is difficult if you are not used to it.

  • The fire is extinguished by the wind
  • It’s scaring the fire approaching fingers holding the match-shaft.

I teach him how to hold a match while blocking the wind with his own palm, and explain the angle at which the flame slowly spreads to the shaft.

6. Eat cup noodles

Today’s menu is sausage and seafood barbecue on the bonfire.

I bought some sausages from the best sausage shop in Japan near my house, and the overnight-dried Japanese squid and grilled turban shells.

Prepare our meal at Snow Peak’s bonfire table.

For carbohydrates, choose Cup Noodles!

I also boil water with a Snow Peak’s flat-banner and sip my favorite cup noodles.

My son was impressed with his first overnight-drying squid experience, was able to grill turban shells well, and sausages taste consistently delicious just by grilling them.

After enjoying the annual roasted marshmallow showdown, the perfect barbecue time comes to an end.

Sausage barbecue without the risk of being undercooked and requiring no sauce is a recommended menu for easy camping.

7. See a shooting star in the starry sky

It got completely dark and the stars came out.

The night sky at my home town is beautiful, but the night sky here is on a different level.

My son says it’s the most beautiful he’s ever seen.

As I watched an airplane cross the star-filled sky and what looked like an artificial satellite, we saw a shooting star!

Look at each other and high five!

Seeing a shooting star alone can be a joy, but seeing a shooting star with two people is even more rewarding when you share the excitement.

8. Make a bonfire with driftwood

Once the cooking is done, the ingredients for a bonfire to enjoy are the driftwood that has washed up on the sandy beach.

There are many dry pieces of driftwood of various sizes lying on the beach.

Turn on headlights, collect things, get some fire from the embers of the barbecue, and have a blissful bonfire time.

9. Watch “Moon Road”

The edge of the mountain was getting brighter.

Maybe it’s moonrise?

I called out to my son who was relaxing in the tent and watched the moonrise.

When the moon rises, a ray of light shines on the sea surface.

This is the path of the moon.

When my son sees the path of the moon for the first time, instead of being immersed in emotion, he thinks about why it appears and begins to explain it.

Even when the two of us are separated, the mysterious path of the moon continues to move towards each of us.

10. Read your favorite comics in the tent

Inside the tent, my son had brought 10 of his favorite comics Dr. Stone.

For the first time in a long time, I found myself immersed in reading the book’s stylish production of bringing Dr. Stone to a camping trip on the beach.

While listening to the quiet sound of waves crashing without rest since time immemorial.

5 things I want to do with my son ~2nd day of camp~

The morning I woke up, unable to sleep at all, to the quiet sound of waves crashing without rest since time immemorial.

11. Drink freshly brewed decaffeinated coffee

Having a morning routine at home is kind of the fun of camping.

Today I brought some decaffeinated coffee beans with the intention of drinking it with my son.

Boil water in a Uniflame kettle, grind beans in the world’s best coffee mill Comandante, and slowly brew coffee. It’s like coming to camp to do this.

12. Bake crispy honey toast over a bonfire

Light up a little charcoal and toast it on a wire rack over an open flame. This is absolutely delicious.

We spread the tube butter, which was a big hit at this camp, and grilled it even more, then drizzled with honey.

My son put some Ghana-chocolate on top and let it melt, and he seemed very happy. Along with freshly brewed coffee.

13. Go fishing

At the fishing tackle store, the clerk was told, ‘Hmm, I hope I can catch some,” so I bought just a set of Sabiki and tried embankment fishing.

The sea is so transparent that you can clearly see whether there are fish or not.

I saw schools of fish that were too small to catch.

When I dropped the sabiki basket, what caught was a “Nenbutsudai”.

I did a search on Google Lens and found out it’s edible. I decided to continue fishing.

Even when we went fishing, my son, who has a lot of experience with bouzu which means zero fishing result, was having fun fishing, while I was tidying up the camp base.

14. Pick up beautiful seashells for his little sister.

There are locals who pick up trash from early morning, and Mikisato Beach is very beautiful.

We picked up a few souvenirs for his little sister who loves beautiful stones and shells.

Collect as many shells as we can into the small jar I put the coffee beans in.

15. Let’s play catch on the beach again.

We were told that it was going to rain in the morning, so we finished cleaning up early.

After catching 16 fish and being satisfied with the fishing, we finally set out.

Personally, I felt like I had done everything I needed to do, but I had some free time, so

When I asked, “Is there anything else you want to do?”

“I want to play catch,” my son said.

We took out the gloves and ball that we had removed and played catch again.

Life highlights

We’re healthy, our schedules match, the weather is nice, and we get along well.

For two days, the two of us thoroughly enjoyed an opportunity that is hard to come by even if we wanted to.

Not more than that.

Let’s go again.

Have a nice day today!
